A fire-resistant doorset may include the door leaf, frame, anchors, core, facings, intumescent or smoke seals, hinges, lock or exit hardware, closer, glazing system, threshold and installation conditions. The acceptable configuration depends on the applicable test, listing, assessment and destination requirements.
Never assume that using a “fire door core” makes a door rated. Never assume that evidence for one configuration automatically covers a different size, frame, hardware set or factory.
What the buyer should review
- Destination acceptance: Ask the authority, consultant, importer or certification specialist what standard and evidence form are accepted.
- Document validity: Verify issuer, holder, factory, dates, scope, model identification and any public listing where available.
- Assembly match: Compare leaf, frame, dimensions, hardware, glazing, seals and installation against the offered BOM.
- Permitted variations: Confirm exactly which size, finish, handing and hardware changes remain within scope.
- Factory control: Ensure production and labeling follow the approved manufacturing location and surveillance requirements where applicable.
- Project submittal: Obtain written approval before deposit or production where performance is contractual.
Local code and acceptance decisions should be confirmed with qualified professionals in the destination. This guide is a procurement framework, not a certification opinion.
Why substitutions create serious risk
A supplier may offer a visually similar core, frame or hardware item at lower cost. That change can move the product outside the evidence. The same risk applies when a different factory copies a tested drawing without being covered by the certification route.
Red flags
- Only a generic certificate cover page is supplied
- The offered model code does not appear in the evidence
- The factory, holder or manufacturing address does not match
- Hardware is described as “equivalent” without written acceptance
- The quote promises a rating but omits frame, seals and installation
- The supplier refuses to provide the complete technical scope before deposit

Fire-resistant doors are not treated as a default catalog category. LANDO first checks whether a selected manufacturing route has current evidence for the exact assembly and whether the buyer’s destination accepts that route.
If that cannot be established, we will not market the product as rated. A visually similar door may still be quoted as a non-rated service door when suitable for the intended use and clearly described as such.
